3 Steps to Start Your Fitness Journey — Ready or Not
Waiting until you feel ready is the surest way to never begin.
The truth is, you can start today, right now, whether the motivation has arrived or not. Here are three simple steps to make that happen.
1. Take your gear with you
Pack your exercise clothes and bring them to work, or keep a set in the car. That way you can change and head straight to your workout, instead of going home first — where the couch, the kettle, and a hundred small distractions are waiting to talk you out of it. Remove the detour, and you remove the excuse.
2. Lay it out the night before
Set your gear out before bed, ready to go. When the alarm sounds in the morning, you can slip it on and be out the door before a warm, comfy bed reclaims you. Decisions are hardest when you’re half-asleep, so make the decision the night before — your morning self will thank you.
3. Commit to a friend
Arrange to exercise with someone. Interestingly, it’s far harder to disappoint a friend by not showing up than it is to disappoint ourselves. That gentle accountability will carry you out the door on the days willpower won’t.
None of these require motivation — just a little planning. Pick one, put it in place today, and let the momentum build from there. You don’t have to feel ready. You just have to start.
